This was supposed to be a quick update but grew to large it is kept intact as written though. What can I say. I'm excited. Update : Link to the Past : Major Hidden Message Discovered

 Edited 2/23/17

Hey Everyone!

This didn't need a new dedicated post, it is more of just a quick update. Rob dug the original sketch! So I sent it off to CNtheArtist. He had some ideas floating in his head since I asked if he had any interest beforehand and liked the preliminary idea as well. He is going to play with it a bit send me some ideas, then we'll have some back and forth. He gave me some good advice on some of the colors and grading. Can't wait to see what he comes up with. Oh and for fun, my ridiculous ask for the day, because I always have grand ideas that I then try to have other people help me accomplish, I wanted a small part of logo to be animated. I will reveal no more! That is all I am willing to give away! Just to keep expectations in check, do not expect something like the early Playstation days when companies like (I think it was) Capcom and Konami went a little crazy with the CG intros. We are humble and using trickery to make this work if we can. Hope others thinks it's cool! As I was talking to him I was like "This is really rad, this will be one of the first things people see when they play the game, it will be on merch, etc." No Pressure or anything! The first and last points on my list of notes were to have fun with it. We aren't bound by a strict deadline so if the inspiration isn't there one day don't force it. I have definitely had to walk away from the game before. But the most important details I was looking for were symmetry, scale, and cohesion. I told him that the logo is one of the most important things for a company and that Nintendo has had the same logo since before we were born. I just looked it up and it has gone through very minor iterations since 1970 but I feel like my point stands.

When it comes to this task, Chris was the first person I thought of. We met in first grade and started a Ninja Turtle Club. I was Leonardo and he was Donatello. Sorry Raph and Mikey, I do not recall who you were but if you ever find this reach out! The reason I knew Chris was the right person for the job is because he taught me how to draw. Well, draw as well as I could which isn't great. When I would draw Ninja Turtles they would be stick figures with lines drawn where their pads would be. It was like my 1st grade brain could not decipher how to draw an arm or a torso. I never got as good as him at drawing but I was always envious. One time, much later in life we hanging out at a local spot grabbing a beer and I challenged him to a drawing contest on the fly. Something I thought he really couldn't have any real advantage of. It was of a Mario Bobomb. I figured it was easy enough even for me but damn if his didn't completely eclipse mine. I wish I kept those napkins just to show the comparisons. One thing I will say though, he completely destroys me at drawing and is a great friend father and husband. When it comes to video games though, for some reason in a few games I had obscene luck against him. Off the top of my head these stories include but are not limited to...

Strange comebacks in Ken Griffy baseball I think the N64 version, where I was down by a lot and my man Craig Biggio hit 2 grand slams in the bottom of the 9th to save me. True story as I remember it. Chris if you remember that hit up the comments.

Playing one of the N64 Wrestling games. I don't remember which ones. They came out each year so I will never remember. In this one you could play as female characters. If I remember correctly this was really unfair because I think they could only push, which would build their special meter and they could do their special move. Well we must have been doing a triple threat match or something. I don't recall exactly, but it was his two wrestlers with full move sets vs my female wrestler with push and super. Somehow I vanquished my foes. Have you ever seen Evo Moment #37? That is how I felt!

Speaking of Street Fighter Alpha though 2 in this case but still Ken. We played a lot of that game. Unfortunately, I think Chris had a little trouble noticing the beginning frames for  Kens Super. Lots of matches were ended with a bright golden background back then.

It wasn't all competitive though. We had a great time playing through all of the campaigns in Resident Evil 2. Chris introduced me to good comics, like I never knew that Ninja Turtles was actually dark before he showed me the original comics. He also introduced to me to some classic anime like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and other masterpieces like Perfect Blue. We went to comic conventions together when they were in Boston and definitely let that side of my personality shine. He has been a great friend for close to 27ish? I don't know are we getting close to the point where we stop counting? Do we just say a long time? Since we were in elementary school? He's a stand up dude that's always there for you, fun, and I feel blessed to have him on this project!

Thanks Chris! You're a great friend!

P.S.

I thought of this a few days ago and I have to get it out of my brain. It has nothing to do with the game and my wife would find no humor in it. A new Zelda is coming out next week! How exciting! Totally stoked its open world and I hope Nintendo nails it which they almost always do. But then I started worrying because supposedly EVERY item you have can break. As mentioned in my last post Link to the Past is currently my 3rd favorite game. I was like "Nintendo, Link has rocked a Solid Gold sword before, what is this nonsense with my stuff breaking?" so I went deeper.

According to Google the average weight of a broadsword would be 3lbs.

A quick google search suggests his solid gold sword would cost $54,670.08 (lets just leave out the variable of the hilt being a different metal and what not, this is for fun, not a mission to the moon.)

Link uses Silver arrows. The average arrow weighs. .05 Pounds According to what I read online you only need 4 to kill Gannon, lets be honest you'll use more but lets pretend you are perfect. You just shot at least $52.82 worth of arrows, IF YOU ARE PERFECT and don't use it anywhere else in the game. Which I always do. They are really powerful.
Finally, We have the final shield. From some quick research a large metal shield would weigh roughly 22 pounds. Links final shield is a mirror shield. I would like to suggest that this is also made of gold. Gold is very reflected and is in fact being used by Nasa in its brand new Telescope.
https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/james-webb-space-telescopes-golden-mirror-unveiled
So I propose that this shield is actually Gold as that is a great reflective "mirroring" metal.
Cost of 22 pounds of gold? $400,849.85

That means that you are fighting Gannon with roughly $455,572.75 worth of equipped gear. I know you have to light the lanterns later on but oil for your lamp isn't going to add to much to your bottom line when you already have that much invested. Plus, if you really want to get technical about there are items that are technically priceless like the invisible cape or medallions. Then there is the bug catcher, in case, ya know, you ever wanted to mildly annoy a guard with a bee, but not kill him, you could have had a potion but didn't think it was a good idea to think that far ahead so you caught a bee instead. Good thinking.

Thanks everyone!

Major Update as of 2/24/2017 Guys

I think I may have stumbled upon something major. Like MAJOR MAJOR. Like so MAJOR it will make the "Bigger Luke Theory" seem like small potatoes.

http://biggerluke.wikidot.com/bigger-luke

I was thinking, With all of this gold that Link is rocking why is he storing things in something as mundane as bottles. In all honestly the Link in the game that I know would be storing his potion in something much closer to this.

Then it occurred to me, weird, shady hut with questionable characters soliciting people walking by.

The Witch Hut, while also being associated with the occult (note the ram head on the roof) is a front for selling drugs. Those various potions, I am sorry to say may actually be various mixtures of Sizzurp.

But wait, as if it wasn't bad enough that the game was selling you illegal (well to be fair, I don't know if Hyrule has a DEA, or if they regulate prescription medication) this goes even a few layers deeper. Do you see the item that Link has three pictures up? It's a magic mushroom. Most commonly used for psychedelic journeys and self enlightenment. (or for some just fun, but still illegal here)

So Link provides the magic mushroom to the drug pusher errrr "Witch" and gets the magic powder. Have you tried using the powder on random things? It is now my opinion he is not sprinkling the dust on things but rather using, probably through snorting though I can not confirm, it on himself and having a psychedelic trip. How else could this happen when you use the magic powder.

Further, I seem to remember being able to set some enemies or maybe chickens on fire with it but I could not confirm this with some searching on the internet. I wish I had the time to play to that point and experiment but unfortunately I do not have the time right now. What I did find though was this.

  • In A Link to the Past, if Link sprinkles Magic Powder onto the Cucco inside the house of one of the Informant Women in Kakariko Village, it will become a woman and scold Link for teasing the other Cuccos.[1] If he sprinkles Magic Powder on the Sweeping Lady in front of her house, she turns into a Fairy.[2]
Credit goes to https://zeldawiki.org/Magic_Powder for that.

Please tell me that all of this does not add up to a nefarious and well hidden drug using sub plot. You wont be able to change my mind! :)

Busy weekend ahead. That was a lot of Zelda talk! I am not sure where we will be game dev wise next week. I have been working on the first room you'll see of the demo, maybe I will post that up so you can see how barren things can look before all the effort gets put in! Other than that, I posted once a long time ago on an IGN message board my opinions on Zelda's Legacy, what I think of the games I played (I've missed a few and I am ok with that.) and what I think I would personally do to make keep it fresh in future iterations. Some of them they have actually done, like opening up the map so it was less linear like Link Between Worlds when you could tackle dungeons in any order. Some of them I think they still need to address (maybe Breath of the Wild will?) for example, my feeling for a long while has been "Oh come on, another dungeon designed around using a hookshot? Have we not had a new idea for an item since 1991?" So, be prepared for those thoughts and more. Some may agree, some may disagree, that's cool. Hopefully, I don't offend anyone and we can stay friends! :)

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Best,

JP

PPPPPS

Drat. I had one last wild theory. As some may know, Zelda has the most confusing time line ever.

From : https://zeldawiki.org/images/7/7c/Timeline_Hyrule_Historia.jpg

If Link to the Past had taken place before Twilight Princess in the official timeline I was going to make the case for the Magic Powder being the conduit for him finding his spirit animal. (Wolf)
